What is the difference between kosher and halal?

Kosher doesn’t consume meat and dairy in the same meal. Also they use separate eating and preparation utensils and surfaces for meat and dairy consumption. Kosher doesn’t allow shellfish and the rules always apply. Halal does not permit alcohols, additives or preservatives. Also gelatin must be pork free.

The two are similar in terms that they both do not allow for pork consumption and certification and processing must be authenticated to be labeled Halal or Kosher.
